Can a person import rewards/prizes accepted through participation in International Competitions held overseas as duty free?

Yes.

Rewards/prizes won/gained by any Bangladeshi citizens or organizations as a symbol of success in any recognized international competition are exempted from Customs duties and Value Added Tax subject to the following conditions:

  1. Vehicles/cars, televisions, refrigerators, air conditioners or any other similar consumer durables will not enjoy this duty free facility
  2. A certificate (in the prescribed form) from the concerned official of the Ministry/Division has to be submitted to the concerned Customs Station for each consignment.
  3. The rewards/prizes will not be sold or transferred without prior permission from the NBR and payment of applicable duties and taxes.
