Computers are known as automatic data processing machines, and are classifiable under HS Heading 84.71. General import of such computers are not duty free. However, an importer needs to pay only a minimal rate of Customs duty of 2% on computers, computer parts, and computer accessories. Other taxes, such as Supplementary duty (if any) and VAT, are exempted. The NBR offers this facility under the Statutory Regulatory Order (SRO) no. 157-law-/2011/2343/Customs, dated 09 June 2011.
The SRO also covers computer printers and their parts (HS Heading 84.43), toner/inkjet cartridges (HS Heading 84.43) and ribbons (HS Heading 96.12) for computer, computer parts (HS Heading 84.73), and computer software, magnetic/optical media, flash memory etc. (HS Heading 85.23).
